Georges Maroniez: training and artistic approach
Ne in Douai in 1865, Maroniez was a student of Pierre Billet and close to the Wissant group. A magistrate by profession, he devoted himself in parallel to photography and painting, with a particular interest in maritime and port life. His seascapes capture the everyday gestures of fishermen, the returns from fishing, and the variations of light on the water. His practice sits between r ealism and poetic sensitivity, inheriting from rigorous observation of nature while integrating a luminous and atmospheric approach.A particular interest in maritime and port life.
