Empire-style oval gold mirror
The mirror presented is an oval model in carved wood, typical of the decorative production of the 19th century inspired by the Empire style. The structure consists of a complete wooden frame, worked in a regular way, then covered with gold leaf gilding applied on a plate. This one has a characteristic sheen of the old gilding. The outer rim is adorned with a carved laurel tree, a recurring motif in the decorative repertoire of the Empire, symbolically associated with glory and victory in the ancient tradition reinterpreted in the 19th century.
The mirror displays harmonious proportions, with a total height of 78 cm and a width of 65 cm. This format allows installation above a piece of furniture or as a central element on a wall. The structure of the framework does not show any significant change. The gilding appears homogeneous, with a regular patina, marked by slight wear and tear on the reliefs, in accordance with an ancient object of this type.
